Importance of Goal Setting
Updated: May 18
Like the image attached by Selina Van Hagen, Therapy opens many different doors in life, giving a better understanding of who we were, who we are now, and who we would like to be in the future.
Setting goals in therapy can give purpose and direction. In CBT we try to make goals SMART.
SPECIFIC -Try to be as specific as possible.
MEASURABLE - How do we know when progress is made? What will that look like? What will be different? How will we know? How can progress be measured?
ACHIEVABLE - Is it possible for to meet this goal?
RELEVANT - is this goal relevant enough to keep us working towards it?
TIME BOUND - When will we do this by? Give it a deadline!
If you find that try as you might, you are not achieving your goals, check out how SMART they are. A few tweaks might make all the difference.
